A walking tour of the UK.
If you’re looking for an exciting and relaxing break, look no further than the UK; there is so much to do and see and with amazing walking and cycling holidays on offer, there is no need to leave the country to have a great holiday.
The UK may be overlooked as a holiday destination by many British families, who prefer to jet off to exotic shores in search of sunshine, but it has a wealth of activities to offer, as well as beautiful, unspoilt scenery and amazing attractions.
When planning on embarking on a ‘staycation’ and holidaying in the UK, why not try one of the many walking holidays available? Walking holidays are an excellent way of discovering some of the most stunning landscapes in the country, as well as providing an escape from city life and the opportunity to sample parts of the country you may never have even heard of before.
The UK is home to some of the world’s most inspiring landscapes and cycling and walking holidays provide the perfect means of experiencing this stunning scenery. National Parks are a paradise for walkers; the Peak District and the Lake District are among the most well-known and it is no surprise that they attract thousands of visitors every year.
The Lake District is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful areas in the UK. Home to rugged rocks, tranquil lakes and domineering mountains, it offers something for everyone. You can spend your days following one of the many walking routes and climbing craggy summits, before winding down in the evening at one of the many restaurants or hotels.
The Peak District is home to two very different types of landscape; the wild, frantic moors contrast perfectly against the smooth dales with their gently undulating hills. Nearby, the Yorkshire moors, made famous for providing the dramatic backdrop to Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights, are also well worth a visit.
Eager to inject an adrenalin rush into your walking tour? Take on Mount Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales or embark on the ‘14 Peaks’ challenge, which involves climbing to the summit of the 14 highest peaks in Wales, with each peak over 3,000 feet. The route is around 24 miles long and all the peaks can be completed in one day by physically fit walkers. At the end of the day, you can relax in one of the many cosy pubs or hotels and enjoy Welsh hospitality.
If you are a keen cyclist and you fancy a challenge, why not take on the ultimate bike ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats? This famous route takes riders from the most southern to the most northern points of the UK and visitors flock to both destinations from all over the world. The route is more than 950 miles long and affords participants an incredible opportunity to see the best of Britain as they take in breathtaking views, stop off at many towns and villages along the way and experience the geography and history of the UK. The cycle challenge has become a very popular means of raising money for charity and the route is well-established, with interesting ports of call throughout.
Walkers in the UK are absolutely spoilt for choice; there are well-trodden routes to follow, as well as lesser-known gems to discover while experiencing all kinds of amazing views and landscapes. A walking holiday is a perfect way to discover the UK, so what are you waiting for? Dust off your hiking boots and book your British walking tour.
