What Does Freeview Offer ?



Freeview is the UK digital television service. Launched in October 2002, it is now has a substantial user base in television entertainment and competes directly against giants such as Sky and Virgin Media.

Freeview TV is accessed through a set top box which is plugged into the back of a television. For a one off payment to buy the box, viewers have access to up to 48 different digital television channel across a variety of genres including entertainment, sport, documentaries and many more.

Freeview Channels Include:

BBC Three   ITV 3   E4 +1   Dave

BBC Four   ITV 4   Fiver   Film 4

ITV 2   E4   UKTV History   Sky 3  


These are only a few of the channels available and all produce high quality popular programming. Some popular programmes include, Gossip Girl, Hustle, Dexter and Doctor Who. Freeview channels also offer ‘extra’ programming for some of the most popular terrestrial channel, such as The Xtra Factor and Strictly Come Dancing: It takes Two.

The Digital Switchover

As the digital switchover proceeds across the country, gradually every UK television will have to receive Freeview digital TV. In the border region of England, the switchover started on the 6th November 2008 and it was the first region to receive a digital only television signal. The switchover will occur last in London in 2012, after which there will be no analogue terrestrial television available across the country.

Freeview+

Freeview+ is the next generation brand from the providers of Freeview. With a Freeview+ box viewers can pause and rewind live television,  or even record a whole television series onto their box. Similar in function to Sky +, Freeview+ has the same functions with no monthly charges or fees! What could be better than that? Long gone are the days of teaching your granny to set her VHS to record Emmerdale when she’s out at the bingo, now it’s just at the touch of a button.
