The story of Chester Cathedral can be traced back to the time of the Saxon Minster, which in 907 housed the remains of St Werburgh. During the period from 1092 to 1540 the Benedictine Abbey of St Werburgh flourished on the same ground.
Characteristic of the Cumbrian rural landscape, this imposing water corn mill and site has been part of the local traditions for over 400 years. Located close to the ruins of Gleaston Castle, the present building dates from 1774, with the impressive wooden gearing being original to the 1700s.
High Corn Mill is set along the picturesque Leeds-Liverpool canal in the heart of Skipton. The historical building that now serves as a modern retail complex and is also home to the Innovation Centre and museum, which is Skipton’s newest tourist attraction. The Centre is free to all visitors.
